INVITING YOU TO
I have worked in the field of Integrative Medicine for many years and with Johns Hopkins Integrative Medicine and Digestive Health Center since 2009. I like the multi-disciplinary opportunity to build health that is fostered in integrative settings. I encourage exercise, good nutrition, meditation, visualization, yoga, or massage. In this way, I integrate an awareness about the body and its messages into the therapy session. The first awareness is that you and your health are a priority in your life!
When emotions do not get expressed, but repressed, they are often pushed deep into the body. The body will do what it can to continue to work for you, but eventually symptoms begin to show themselves. Digestive problems, chronic pain, fatigue, blood pressure, insomnia may be outcomes of that hard work. In Integrative Psychotherapy, we unpack the behaviors that cause added stress and find ways to celebrate and enliven the mind and body connection. |
I can help you make your health a priority in your life. And, when you and your health become a priority in your life:
Are you ready to do the inner work to feel better? |
In my counseling work, I employ techniques that combine relaxation and imagination. By learning how to deeply relax, you can also learn to imagine creative outcomes. This is where and how the mind-body connection, so often referred to in integrative medicine, becomes a part of the your healing process.
Imagination Response Therapies (IRT) are the three modalities - The Bonny Method, Hypnotherapy, & Guided Visualization - that I use to enhance the mind-body connection. Each modality taps the non-verbal, sensorial and picture-making parts of the mind with helpful results. Clients often note that Marilyn engenders a deep level of trust and creates a feeling of safety as she guides you into deep states of relaxation and imaging. |
The Imagination Response Therapy includes:

TeachingI found my footing as a teacher through teaching subjects I am passionate about:
The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery & Music (GIM) My first experiences in teaching GIM were way back in the previous century when I was Co-Director of the Institute for Consciousness and Music. I have also taught GIM at Temple University, and Appalachian State University as adjunct faculty, and in England, Scotland, and Ireland. I continue to teach GIM when the opportunity arises and often work with advanced students in supervision. Creating Mandalas I studied with Joan Kellogg, ATR, who was a research colleague of Dr. Bonny’s in the 1970’s. Eventually I became a teacher of the drawn mandala as an instrument for personal insight. In 2006, I joined Susanne Fincher, LCP, ATR, in the formation of the Creating Mandalas Certificate Program where I enjoy teaching about archetypes, patterns of development, and cycles of change over the lifespan. |
SupervisionSupervision, one-on-one teaching, is my opportunity to share insight gained in counseling and to share my passion and experience.
Psychotherapy Supervision On your journey towards developing the skills of a therapist whether for licensure or for your own development, look for the presence and style in a supervisor that will help you feel best prepared for your work. Creating mandalas, journaling, and imagery processes are part of the supervision process and can offer you a new perspective into your work as a therapist. Guided Imagery & Music Supervision For persons in advanced GIM training, your skills and understanding of The Bonny Method is enhanced through the supervision relationship. I will pass along knowledge and insights learned from practice, favorite resources, and historical perspectives as you work towards your AMI Fellowship. Supervisions can be accomplished via Skype, Dropbox, or other online methods. Creating Mandalas Mentor As a mentor in Creating Mandalas Certificate Program, I encourage your creative response to and understanding of creating mandalas for insight and healing. I will help you focus on your creative project, the primary requirement of Part II. This mentorship is rewarding while having a good bit of challenge and fun as well. |
