INVITING YOU TO
Staying open to curiosity, wonder, and spirit-filled awe describes Marilyn. Her career path has been influenced by many pioneers of inner depth work. Joseph Campbell’s exploration of myth was an early fascination for her as was his advice to “follow your bliss!” Marilyn embraced the inspiration of Helen Bonny and her work at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center with music programming for psychedelic therapy sessions. Helen created Guided Imagery & Music (GIM), a music-centered modality for persons wanting to explore inner landscapes without the use of psychedelics. Thirsting for more, Marilyn attended numerous “Journey into Wholeness” conferences centered on the work of Carl Jung. Along the way, Marilyn studied with Joan Kellogg, a student of world religions, Jung, and Freud, who brought the practice and study of drawn mandalas to the fore.
Next came the necessity to round out her background by studying psychological counseling, psychopathology, personality development, and much more in the Loyola University of Maryland Pastoral Counseling Program. After receiving her M.S. and her counseling license, Marilyn worked with the Pastoral Counseling Services of Maryland, seeing individuals and couples for pastoral counseling. Soon she was drawn to a new field: Integrative Medicine. She had long been a proponent of holistic health and enjoyed learning Reiki I and II from Ethel Lombardi, a Reiki Master. When the opportunity came to join St. Joseph’s Center for Health Enhancement as a counselor, imagery specialist, and Reiki practitioner, she jumped at the chance. She has remained in the field of Integrative Medicine and for the last several years has been a contractor with the Johns Hopkins Integrative Medicine and Digestive Health Center as a licensed counselor. Here she uses her skills in counseling, relaxation, hypnosis, and imaging to assist people in their personal journeys to wholeness. Marilyn has remained dedicated to the Helen Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM). She has trained professional therapists in the method, written articles on several relevant topics, lectured and given workshops in settings in the United States, Canada, England and Denmark. The transformative power of listening to music while relaxed and with the guidance of a trained GIM facilitator can allow the mind and psyche to follow the journey inward, often yielding amazing results. Today, Marilyn is a proud grandmother, a member of Stony Run Friends Meeting in Baltimore, a mentor, and therapist. She loves to sing, dance, tell stories, draw mandalas, create collages, and enjoy the company of friends and family. She strives to live her life with a maximum of joy and a minimum of regret. • Marilyn Clark's Credentials - Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) - National Certified Counselor (NCC) - Fellow of the Association for Music & Imagery (FAMI) Marilyn enjoying Association for Music & Imagery (AMI) and European Association of Music & Imagery (EAMI) Conferences with colleagues.
